Visible mending is both a practical repair method and a meaningful way to celebrate the stories held in well-worn clothing. In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn the foundational skills needed to mend non-stretch woven fabrics using simple hand-sewing techniques and decorative patching methods.

In this workshop you’ll:

  • Learn how to choose fabric, thread, and patches for functional, beautiful repairs
  • Explore multiple ways to sew a decorative patch onto a garment
  • Practice basic hand-stitches used in visible mending
  • Understand how to assess wear and prepare a garment for repair
  • Experiment with color, texture, and design to create expressive mends

You’ll take home:
Finished or in-progress mends, practice materials, and the skills to continue repairing clothing at home.

Participants are welcome to bring a damaged garment to work on; sample fabrics will also be provided.

All materials included; no prior sewing experience required.

All fees are non-refundable. If cancellation is made AT LEAST 7 days before the workshop date, a store credit will be issued as a digital gift certificate that may be applied to any future class or used in the retail store.

Classes are transferable. If you cannot find someone to take your spot, please email info@gathersebastopol.com and we will offer it to the waitlist (if any).

If a class doesn't meet the minimum registration, we reserve the right to cancel up to 24 hours before the class and will offer a credit, refund, or reschedule.
